Roald Dahl’s “The BFG”: The Movie Is Coming

Good news for former children: the classic kids novel The BFG, about a vegetarian, dream mixologist giant, will be the latest Roald Dahl book to be turned into a feature film.

It’ll be helmed by rookie director Steven Spielberg, who’s teaming up with another newbie – Melissa Mathieson, who wrote the screenplay for a little indie movie called E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Probably a student film or something.

If Roald Dahl’s track record as source material for movies is anything to go by, this should be great. Unlike other authors whose movies have been adapted for the screen, there’s hardly a dud in the Dahl canon, which ranges from the excellent (Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, The Witches, Matilda), all the way through to the simply great (Fantastic Mr Fox, James and the Giant Peach)

Production will begin early next year, with an expected release in mid-2016.
