Christ almighty, no trailer for a TV show based on a children’s comic deserves to feature cults, prison riots, potential child sacrifices, and some clearly demonic sketches. But here we are, staring at the latest trailer for Riverdale‘s third season, trying to understand how The CW can fit all of that moody goodness into what could easily have been a throwaway teen drama.

The new clip, just thirty seconds in length, shows things ain’t so great for Archie (KJ Apa) after his arrest at the tail-end of Season 2. But it’s poor old Jughead (Cole Sprouse) who seems to have caught the worst of it, considering he can be seen, uh, wriggling his way from underneath two lifeless bodies in the middle of the bloody woods.
