RIP Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage

Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage, one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE history, has died in a car crash overnight in the U.S.

Fans of WWE – and let’s face it, if you were a male alive in the late ’80s or ’90s, there’s a good chance that’s you – will know Macho Man as one of the most animated and colourful personalities in the sport, right down to his ‘Ohhhh, Yeah!’ catchphrase and propensity to wear the most garish costumes the ring had ever seen. It’s believed that Savage (real name Randy Poffo) suffered from a heart attack, causing him to lose control of his vehicle which ploughed head-on into a tree.

Tributes have come rushing in from the wrestling world, most notably from fellow champ Hulk Hogan, who allegedly didn’t talk to Savage for over a decade, saying on Twitter “He had so much life in his eyes & in his spirit, I just pray that he’s happy and in a better place and we miss him… We miss him a lot. I feel horrible about the ten years of having no communication. This was a tough one… I just pray that Randy’s happy and in a better place and we miss him,” while Bret Hart also opened up “I have no words to say. This one hits me hard. We lost one of the best. This sums it up.”
