Remain Calm, But Someone Might Be Preggo In The New ‘Gilmore Girls’ Season

Sweet baby jesus, the countdown is finally on! After months of constant teasing and drip-fed news and cast announcements and such, Netflix finally gave us word that the new, revival series of ‘Gilmore Girls‘ will hit screens on November 25th.

So now that the four 90-minute episodes of ‘A Year in the Life‘ are in the can, all that’s left now is to start mercilessly teasing fans about what’s in store come late November.
And they are definitely not screwing around. The official Gilmores Instagram account has been posting weekly updates, mostly with throwback images to the OG series; little things like a VHS copy of that vaunted Stars Hollow cinematic classic ‘A Film by Kirk,’ or a couple of boxes of Chinese food from Al’s Pancake World (no clams, though. Never the clams).
But this new teaser? Hooley DOOLEY it’s a huge one.
Earlier today the official account posted this seemingly innocuous photo.

Pop-Tart appetizers to hold us over ’till the pizza comes. And one apple.

Now, that right there seems like not the biggest of deals. But superfans of the show (who isn’t) will recognise it as one of two different significant moments.
The first, less life-altering reference is from way back in season one, when Lorelai serves Rory and the rest of her Chilton chums (Paris, Madeline, and Louise) a tray of pop-tarts, garnished with a single apple as they all studied prior to a Bangles concert.
And in fact that caption Netflix uses is the exact quote from the episode (S01E13 for those of you playing at home). “Pop-tart appetisers to hold you over ’till the pizza comes.
But here’s where it gets a bit murkier. The “and one apple” addendum to the quote throws a spanner in the works.
The only time Lorelai‘s diet appeared to steer away from anything other than the junk food aisle at Doose’s Market was when she was either pregnant, or afraid that she was. And at that point, it was apples that she craved.
Commence wild speculation and freaking out.
NOW THEN. The specific mention of the apple. What does it mean?
It could mean that someone in the Gilmore family is pregnant. The new series does take place over an entire year, remember. So there’s ample time to extend the clan. And, frankly, the fact that Lorelai is wearing a shirt that literally reads “I’M WITH HUMAN” in the first teaser is a giant siren in and of itself.
‘Course it could also just be a deftly manipulated reference designed purely to get everyone losing their ever-loving minds.
And, frankly, either way it’s mission accomplished.
November ain’t that far away, gang.
