Reese Witherspoon And Kerry Washington Both Auditioned For ‘Clueless’ And We’re Buggin

While there’s obviously a lot going on in the midst of all this, there’s still room for the odd cute, fluffy story about your faves. With that in mind, we are delighted to have learned this week that both Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington auditioned to be in the ’90s classic Clueless.

The two stars are currently promoting their series Little Fires Everywhere, and stopped by Buzzfeed to play a game in which they answered questions about the various first times, including First Big Role You Nearly Landed That Went To Someone Else.

In response to this one, Reese Witherspoon said: “One thing that is public and it came out last year, I auditioned so hard for Clueless and I didn’t get it.” An excited Washington revealed “I did too!” Though they both lost out, it didn’t hurt their careers any.

The lead roles in that film went to Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash and Brittany Murphy, but these two wouldn’t mind another crack. “We should do, like, a remake!” Washington said. “We could recreate a scene. That would be so fun!” suggested her would-be co-star.

That could be a tad difficult at present, what with everyone isolating and such, but it’s one to keep in mind for the future. In the meantime, we’ll go ahead and imagine what Clueless would be like with Reese Witherspoon, after imagining Titanic with Matthew McConaughey.
