Reese Witherspoon Announces ‘Legally Blonde’ BFF Moonie Has Died, Aged 18

Crack legal teams abound in pop culture, and we absolutely froth on high-powered pairs doing whatever it takes to ensure justice is done. Bloody hell, just have a gander at the drool-worthy careers in Suits, or scope out the fandom for the (admittedly real) lawyers in Making A Murderer.

Before all of that though, the concept of a flawless legal team was perfected in the seminal masterpiece Legally Blonde. Before Elle Woods and her pupper Bruiser decided to conquer law school in the 2001 epic, the public had never witnessed such a competent and complementary duo.

Sadly, Elle’s real-world counterpart Reese Witherspoon announced yesterday that after a long and successful career as an honourary legal assistant / acting chihuahua, Moonie the dog has died, age 18.

In an utterly delightful recollection of the on-set rapport between Witherspoon and Moonie, the doggo’s trainer Sue Chipperton said “he became quite enamored with his costar, and especially enjoyed all the scenes where he got to sit inside her purse.

As a result of all the “bag training” I did with him for the movie, to this day, you can signal him to jump into any handbag. Sometimes he’ll even do it without your asking. Polite of him, right?”

It was a long and fruitful life for the little guy, who obviously made an impression on the industry that was considerably larger than his selectively-bred body. RIP, Moonie. May you find the Rottweiler of your dreams, wherever you may be.
