Redditor Spots Insanely Subtle Clue As To How Jorah Mormont Might Be Cured

SPOILER WARNING. Obviously this post includes spoilers. Go watch S7E1 if you haven’t already done so.

Finally, FINALLY, ‘Game of Thrones‘ is back.

A lot happened in the S7 premiere last night. Daenerys landed in WesterosFoxtel shat itself. And Arya made the crucial mistake of running into a cameo and not murdering him on site for crimes of being about as subtle as an iron fist to the face.

But we also saw two characters come into contact for the very first time: Samwell Tarly and Jorah Mormont, the latter of whom has nothing but a bung arm and a raging hard-on for the Queen of Dragons to keep him going.

“Has she come yet? The dragon queen, Daenerys Stormborn.”

His greyscale issue has certainly progressed.

Actor Iain Glen, who plays Jorah, told Vulture at the Los Angeles premiere that his story arch this season was about finding a cure for his mostly incurable disease.

“I got to a point where I think I was quite happy to die, I suppose. I’d sort of given up hope because I’d lost her affection [lol Daenerys, who else] and lost her belief in me. And the last moment of our time together last season she said, ‘I need you, I need you to look after yourself, find a cure, so you can come back and be beside me when I occupy the Iron Throne.’ That’s my route, really, this season — to see if I can find a cure.”

So Jorah found his way to the Citadel, where Samwell is also hanging about and doing his best Harry-Potter-trying-to-access-the-restricted-section impression.

Sam ends up stealing a book, and whaddya know, it’s all about dragonglass and its uses, which we know is the one thing with the ability to kill White Walkers.

Eagle-eyed Redditor Beastmomdekait zoomed in on a screenshot of the book, and noticed one important detail that even Sam didn’t happen on: that dragonglass has also been used as a cure for various afflictions.

enhance… ENHANCE!!

There’s something about it being a cure … and how “little harm incurs from the ingestion” … and something about “discount the harm to the gullible”, which makes you think even the Maesters don’t have all that much faith in its healing properties. The text also advises that you’d be better off spending your money on “practical treatments”.

But we, the oh-so-wise viewers, already known that dragonglass cures. Benjen Stark was attacked by White Walkers and left for dead, the Children of the Forest saved him from becoming a wight by shoving a piece of dragonglass in his chest.

And as Beastmodekait points out, the only person we really know for sure who was ‘cured’ of greyscale was Shireen Baratheon.

*sobs quietly*

You know – before she was burnt at the stake by her dear dad Stannis.

And where did Shireen grow up? Oh yeah, right on top of the only known mine of dragonglass (a.k.a. Dragonstone) which Sam helpfully pointed out this episode – and where Daenerys is currently making herself comfortable.

There you have it. At some point, Sam is probably going to find the cure for Jorah’s greyscale, which might prove useful in forming an alliance between Jon and Daenerys. Maybe. (Jon and Sam both have strong connections to Jorah’s dad, the late Commander Jeor Mormont, remember?)
Tune in next week to hopefully find everyone proved utterly correct.
