A Redditor Reversed Some Audio From Rick & Morty & Found A Weird-Ass Message

With any particular episode of Rick & Morty already brimming with untold levels of inter-dimensional mayhem, gore and burp-injected zingers, you’d think there would hardly be any room for the kind of hidden messages or easter eggs one would expect from the likes of say Game of Thrones.

Oh geez were we wrong, as a Redditor (who else?) has discovered a secret message in the most recent episode, by simply reversing the audio of what most people thought was simply garbled turtle speak.

In the opening scene of ‘Morty’s Mindblowers’, Rick and Morty are seen traipsing through a MC Esher maze clutching a bejewelled animal Rick refers to as the Truth Turtle. Before doing what he does best and fucking everything up by dropping old mate into a vortex, the turtle clocks Morty in the eyes and appears to exhale some kind of indecipherable gibberish.

Chuck that bit of audio into reverse, however, and you get the phrase “I’m a Beatle. Paul is dead.”

What this hidden joke from R&M creators is referring to, is the decade long conspiracy theory that Beatles member Paul McCartney actually died in 1966, that a body double has been living out his life ever since and that the rest of the band had been inserting secret reversed messages in their songs ever since, desperately trying to get the message out.

So kind of like the “jet fuel can’t melt steel beams” of the 70s.

Is this the first time an easter egg of this sort has been snuck into a Rick & Morty ep or have the creators been chucking this stuff in for yonks?

That sound you can hear my friends, is nerds across the world scouring through past episodes with a fine-tooth comb.

Rick & Morty is now streaming on Netflix.
