While the bulk of VMAs headlines concerned Kanye West‘s future run for President and Nicki Minaj calling Miley Cyrus a bitch and initiating a beef countdown sequence, Aussie Rebel Wilson has also been catching some heat on the internet, thanks to the perception that her jokes made light of police brutality.
Prior to presenting Nicki with the award for Best Hip Hop Video, Wilson appeared in a hot cop outfit, including a shirt that said ‘Fuck Tha Stripper Police’, and proceeded to make a few corny jokes on the subject:
“A lot of people have problems with the police. But I really hate police strippers. You guys know what I’m talking about. They come to your house, you think you’re getting arrested, and you just get a lap dance that is usually uninspired. I hired a police stripper for my grandmother’s 80th, and he wouldn’t even feel her up. Well I paid an extra $100 for her to get an erotic back massage, but it only lasted one song. I hate this injustice. Hence the shirt.”
Her jokes caught the ire of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, as many on social media took her to task for making light of police brutality:
