The Razzie 2018 nominations – those given to the worst films and performances of the last year – have arrived, and excuse us, but Jennifer Lawrence???
Darren Aronofsky‘s mother! might have pushed the limits about what anyone could be expected to sit through for a film, but that had nothing to do with Jennifer Lawrence’s acting. The total suspension of reality in the third act (not to mention the [SPOILER] baby eating), on the other hand….
Rude.
Nominated in the Worst Actress category, Lawrence is up against Emma Watson (The Circle), Katherine Heigl (Unforgettable), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Darker) and Tyler Perry (Boo 2! A Madea Halloween), presumably because his character is a woman (a.k.a. Madea).
Elsewhere, The Mummy, Fifty Shades Darker, Transformers: The Last Night and The Emoji Movie all, er, cleaned up in the nominations. The esteemed body of voters at The Raspberry Awards are really not fans of Johnny Depp, or the Captain Jack Sparrow act he’s been wheeling out for 14 years.
But the Jennifer Lawrence / mother! thing is still confusing a few people.
mother! has plenty of problems, but Jennifer Lawrence’s performance is not one of them. A Razzie nomination reflects poorly on the awards, not her.

Okay, #Razzies, I didn’t like #mother! either. But #JenniferLawrence was amazing in it, and she in no way deserves your nomination.

A lot of talk about the Razzies in my timeline this morning, so it’s worth pointing out that my favorite movie of 2017, Aronofsky’s MOTHER!, has three nominations, including a ridiculous Worst Director one. pic.twitter.com/65JDTpvqaN

The Razzies once nominated Stanley Kubrick as Worst Director for THE SHINING, so…
