Though the filmed picked up mixed reviews, Rami was praised for his performance, and had cleaned up at basically every awards show in the lead-up to Hollywood’s night of nights, scoring the Golden Globe, Screen Actors’ Guild Award, Critics’ Choice Award and BAFTA for his role as the iconic singer, born Farrokh Bulsara, who originally worked as a baggage handler at Heathrow Airport before he made his name as one of the greatest frontmen in history.

In his acceptance speech, Rami said his dad “didn’t get to see me do any of this, but I think he’s looking down on me right now.” He also thanked Queen for allowing him to be a “tiny part” of the band’s legacy. Here’s the speech:

Rami added:

We made a film about a gay man, an immigrant, who just lived his life and was unapologetically himself. It’s proof that we’re longing for stories like this. I am an immigrant and part of my story is being written right now…I could not be more grateful.

Of course he gave his real-life GF Lucy Boynton, who played Freddie’s one-time girlfriend Mary in the movie: “you are the heart of this film. You’ve captured my heart, thank you so much.”

BLESS.

Rami, you are the champion, my friend.
