In yet another scene from racists says the darnedest things: public transport edition confirming The Daily Show correspondent John Oliver’s hunch that Australia is “the most comfortably racist place” he’s ever been to, a middle-aged Sydney woman has inducted herself into the bully hall of shame after hurling some deplorable racial abuse at a teenaged passenger in Sydney last month.
The 50 year old Sydney mum and person who doesn’t take too kindly to your type around here verbally abused a high school student of Asian descent on the M41 route from Burwood to Campsie in Sydney’s inner-west last month. The student – who didn’t “SIT THE FUCK DOWN” – stood in the bus aisle to protect boxes of fragile goods on the seat adjacent and was thus obstructing the woman’s view of, I don’t know, tress and roads and stuff.
“It’s not fucking right. Sit the fuck down. Get a passport bro,” the woman told him. “I’m born here, I know what I’m doing. Go back on your fucking
boat and fuck off”.
The Youtube video description goes on to explain how much of a terrible human being the woman was: “The rude woman started yelling abuse at them as she claimed that they were blocking her view. The driver had to stop the public vehicle several times and walk to the back of the bus in an attempt to quieten down the woman who, encouraged by another female passenger, continued with the abuse the full trip.”
The footage posted to Youtube and aired last night on A Current Affair is just the latest in a spate of incidents involving racism on public transport.
In November, a French woman was racially abused on a bus in Melbourne for not speaking English.
In February, ABC newsreader Jeremy Fernandez was called a black c**t on a bus in Sydney.
