Rachel Griffiths To Play Julia Gillard In Feature Length TV Drama

In revelations our casting oracle Nick partially predicted nine months ago (good work Nick!) Emmy nominated Julia Gillard lookalike (if you squint a bit) Rachel Griffths (Six Feet Under, Brothers and Sisters) will take on the role of Australia’s first female Prime Minister in a forthcoming “bio-drama” to be produced by the political diehards who brought us Ten’s Hawke and ABC’s Curtin.

As detailed today in an interview with TV Tonight, producer Richard Keddie will oversee the project after acquiring the television rights to “The Stalking of Julia Gillard” by political journalist Kerry-Anne Walsh, a non-fiction tome detailing the cause and effect of the former Prime Minister’s toxic relationship with the Canberra press gallery.

“I am thrilled to portray Australia’s first female prime minister and explore the private aspects of her remarkable term,”
Griffiths said. “I believe that the creative and intellectual capacity of the team involved will produce a stunning drama that will reframe this historic period in our cultural and political life.”

“This is an incredible contemporary Australian story,” Keddie said. “And when the truth is revealed I think Australians will be astounded.”

Gillard, whose salubrious post #spill movements have included an in-depth conversation with Anne Summers at the Sydney Opera House and a brutally honest op-ed piece for The Guardian Australia, was last depicted by comedienne Amanda Bishop in the ABC comedy series At Home With Julia.
