Pretenders To The Throne Being Groomed To Replace Margaret & David ‘At The Movies’

Dour Countess Judith Lucy and my mum’s favourite pop culture news source Jason Di Rosso are reportedly being groomed to fill the chintz iron thrones which will one day be sadly vacated by equal parts cute and critical cineastes Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton

Lucy, Australia’s most parched comedian, and Di Rosso, Radio National’s film critic, will fill in for the At The Movies hosts when they go on Sprang Break, Sprang Break forever for three weeks in the middle of July. They assume the roles previously play acted by temp replacements and amateur hour actors Cathy Blanchett and Geoff Rush during the show’s 25th anniversary in 2011.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the move is “being seen by insiders as a possible audition for their pair as long term successors” to the throne.

“Do we really need another comedian on the ABC? What’s next, Puppetry of the Penis hosting Four Corners?” intoned Judith Lucy. “Bring back David and Margaret PLEASE”, will be the letter I’ll be writing to my local television guide. I love Ms Pomeranz and Mr Stratton. Big shoes to fill,” she continued drawling, presumably in her soothing, dulcet tones.

An ABC spokesperson on Friday afternoon confirmed that Stratton and Pomeranz would be returning for another season of At The Movies next year. Earlier this year, the two intimated that they would consider working toward the show’s 30th anniversary in 2016.
That, or they could just keep guest-programming Rage.
