Prep Your Decks, Consoles – Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Is Coming

For our money – and for a lot of other people’s – there are few games floating around that score higher on a scale of pure fun than the OG Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series.

The series of games (and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 in particular) are icons of the mid-2000s gaming era, with their easy to pick-up controls and endlessly replayable spots and levels. The classic gameplay of the series put an emphasis on playability, awesome soundtracks, and ludicrous combos.
And then things started getting a bit out of hand. The series shifted into slightly more narrative-driven career modes. First with the pretty solid Tony Hawk Underground games. But then it started sliding too far away from what made it great in the first place, with games like American Wasteland, Downhill Jam, and the woefully forgettable experimentation with skateboard peripherals with Tony Hawk: Ride, that just about put the nail in the coffin for the franchise.
But fear not, virtual riders! Activision has not only revealed that the series is being revived, but they’ll be going back to the much beloved old school gameplay as well!
The publishing company has lifted the lid on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, a straight sequel to 2002’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 by virtue of name.
The game will feature a swathe of new levels and goals to achieve, and will combine the classic gameplay with some slight new additions like power ups and the ability to shoot projectiles for certain objectives. The roster of skaters features a swathe of both old faces and new talent, including pros like Tony Hawk, Nyjah Huston, Aaron Homoki, Ishod Wair, Riley Hawk, Lizzie Armanto, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Leticia Bufoni, and Andrew Reynolds.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is due out later in the year on Playstation 4 and Xbox One. PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will follow at a later date.
