That Powerpuff Girls reboot is just draped in red flags, huh? From the abysmal set pictures getting absolutely throttled on social media to the supposed (and very questionable) script leaking to the masses, it’s just been red flag after red flag. And now? The pilot is being reworked. That’s right, it’s back to the drawing board for this one because it was that shit. Just throw the whole thing away, I swear to god. Some shows are not meant to be rebooted.
So The Powerpuff Girls reboot, which is just called Powerpuff, started filming its pilot episode in April.
It stars Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup.
The series, pre-scrapping, focused on the now 20-something superheroes who resent losing their childhoods to fighting crime. So will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever? Dun, dun, DUNNN.
But on Tuesday, it was revealed The CW (the network that ordered the pilot) took a sledgehammer to it because – and I quote – “the pilot didn’t work.”
Instead of scrapping it entirely, however, The CW said the pilot is being reworked.
“The reason we do pilots is sometimes things miss, this was just a miss,” The CW’s Mark Pedowitz explained, as per Deadline.
Ouch.
“We believe in the cast completely, we believe in Diablo [Cody] and Heather [Regnier], the writers… in this case, the pilot didn’t work.”
Again, ouch.
Pedowitz added that it’s really, really important that they get the pilot right considering just how aggressively loved the Powerpuff Girls are around the world. And then he said that the pilot’s tone “might’ve felt a little too campy”, which just makes me want to read the original script.
Speaking of which, the supposed script leaked on Twitter this week and it is… definitely something else.

Pedowitz told Deadline that he couldn’t say if the script was real or not, because he hadn’t seen it. Ha.

For the sake of the pilot and everyone involved, I really fucking hope that script is fake. Because if not, then this series will absolutely, positively give me one huge hate boner.
