The Powerpuff Girls Reboot Is Being Throttled After The Dismal 1st Set Pics Leaked On Twitter

The first set pictures from The Powerpuff Girls reboot have hit the internet and, uh, they’re certainly a vibe. If that vibe is my high school swimming carnival, circa 2014.

Powerpuff, as The CW reboot has been renamed to, focuses on the now 20-something superheroes who resent losing their childhoods to fighting crime. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever? Stay tuned (probably).

Chloe Bennet (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) has been cast as Blossom, Dove Cameron (Liv and Maddie) as Bubbles, and singer Yana Perrault as Buttercup.

The cast and crew were snapped filming the pilot episode in Atlanta on Wednesday by paparazzi.

Just Jared has the bulk of the set pictures, which include Scrubs star Donald Faison swanning around set. He’s been cast as Professor Drake Utonium (!!!).

Broadway actor Nicholas Podany was also spotted on set, prepping for his role as Joseph “Jojo” Mondel Jr.

“As a kid, the nerdy, power-hungry, insecure JoJo was obsessed with The Powerpuff Girls, despite his father’s grudge against them. As an adult, JoJo finds his sweetness and rage in constant battle,” his character description reads, as per industry publication, Variety.

Alrighty-roo.

Anyway, Twitter has thoughts. Some of them are good, like how Dove Cameron is exactly how I pictured a 20-something-year-old Bubbles.

Then people had thoughts about the… costumes.

If you ask me, I reckon the crew are filming an actual school scene or something, where The Powerpuff Girls are coincidentally wearing their colours. Maybe they’re making an appearance at a school as ~ role models ~.

Like, surely, because otherwise the budget must be very low.

I just refuse to believe those are the official, official outfits of The Powerpuff Girls.

Meanwhile, director Maggie Kiley marked the big day on Instagram.

“Day 1,” she captioned a picture of the director’s chair, along with a slew of emojis.

At least the logo looks similar to the original.

It’s still early days for the series, but we’ll let you know if The CW orders a whole season/announces a release date.

To conclude: here is a picture of my colleague, Saskia (left), and her mates at their swimming carnival from 2015. They dressed as The Powerpuff Girls.

Supplied.

Honestly.
