Pope Of Trash John Waters Announces Australian Tour

Gird your genitals, Australian trash lovers, for you’re being granted an audience with his Holiness John Waters. The transgressive auteur behind Pink Flamingos, Hairspray and early Johnny Depp gem Cry-Baby, famously anointed “The Pope of Trash” by renown trash connoisseur William S. Burroughs, will return to Australia in March 2014 with the follow-up to sold out one-man show This Filthy World.

Waters’ new show, called This Filthy World Vol 2, will cover everything from stories of his childhood, life in Baltimore, his fascination with exploitation films, fashion lunacy, Catholicism, sexual deviancy, his relationship to legendary drag performer Divine and achieving infamy. We touched on several of these topics in a 2011 interview with the iconic provocateur.

During his last visit to Australia, Waters appeared on the panel of ABC series Q And A and opined the following on the same-sex marriage debate: “How can they say there’s this great sanctity in heterosexual marriage if you can get married and divorced eight times? I don’t get it. Why would that threaten anybody, that someone would love somebody else. It’s mind-boggling to me.”
