In a surprising but still very welcome bit of casting news, James Gunn confirmed today that Taika Waititi and Pete Davidson are part of the ensemble for his upcoming Suicide Squad 2.
There have been rumours about the casting for several weeks, but today’s news confirms that they will be joining the likes of Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and Jai Courtney in the sequel.
The director took to Twitter to share the casting announcement, which features a host of other big names like John Cena, Nathan Fillion, Peter Capaldi and youngster Storm Reed.
Will Smith is not returning as Deadshot, and it was initially speculated that Idris Elba would take over the character, but we now know he’ll be playing someone new, possibly Bronze Tiger.
Jared Leto‘s Joker had his part cut significantly in the first film, and his name does not appear on this list, meaning the character will either be absent, or will be played by someone new.
Could the role of Joker potentially go to Pete Davidson this time around? We have no bloody idea, but this cast list is so wild that we wouldn’t rule anything out at this point.

James Gunn directed the first two Guardians Of The Galaxy films, but was fired by Marvel and Disney after a controversy around his old Tweets.
DC and Warner Bros quickly snapped him up to bring his particular brand of spectacle to Suicide Squad, THEN Marvel and Disney hired him again for the upcoming Guardians 3.
Needless to say, the guy has a lot on his plate at the moment. Little else is known about the story or characters of Suicide Squad 2 but I’m sure we’ll be hearing more very soon.Image: Getty Images / Steve Granitz / John Parra
