Pete Davidson has processed his very recent and highly-publicised split from Ariana Grande into comedy, using his first stand-up set since their break-up to absolutely own himself on stage.
As part of Saturday’sJudd & Pete for America benefit show at a Hollywood comedy club, Davidson dropped absolute bombs on himself for the merriment of the audience.
After telling the crowd“Well, as you could tell, I don’t want to be here,” and joking that he’s looking for a roommate, Davidson dove into the fact he’s been at work covering up some of the tattoos he acquired during his short-lived engagement to the singer.
“I’ve been covering a bunch of tattoos, that’s fun. I’m fucking 0 for 2… I’m afraid to get my mum tattooed on me, that’s how bad it is,” Davidson said.
The Saturday Night Live mainstay riffed on a magazine article which declared him a stooge for getting so many couple-centric tattoos so soon, telling the audience that his mate eventually brought some wisdom.
“So my boy, he was like, ‘Don’t listen to that shit, man’… And the other day we were in my kitchen and he was like, ‘Yo bro. Turns out you were stupid,’” Davidson said.
Judd Apatow, the co-host of the evening, said he was more concerned about the event – a benefit for progressive candidates at the upcoming US midtern elections – than he was about Davidson’s feelings.
“I feel like I am America,” Davidson joked.
“I’m a good guy that just keeps getting kicked in the dick.
“You’re like, ‘Ah, that fucking poor kid. Hope he doesn’t kill himself.’ That’s America.”
The set comes days after Grande appeared onstage at a Wicked anniversary event. Notably, she did not spend half of her time absolutely dunking on herself for the entire ordeal.
