We’re Sorry To Report Paul Mescal Has Left Sydney To Hoof It To Rural NSW & No, Come Back

Paul Mescal

Normal People star Paul Mescal has started filming his new movie, Carmen, in a small village around two hours away from Sydney.

Mescal has been in the country since late December at least, celebrating the holidays in Sydney. He has since travelled to Breadalbane, NSW, to commence shooting on Carmen, a modern-day reimagining of one of the world’s most beloved operas.

The dramatic opera tells the story of a free-spirited woman and the downfall of the soldier determined to win her heart. The film, according to the Daily Telegraph, will focus more on a “woman’s desperate attempts to make it to freedom in LA.”

Mescal is starring opposite Melissa Barrera in the film, who will play the titular role of Carmen.

Shooting kicked off today, and will continue for seven weeks.

While photos of Mescal’s days in Sydney were extremely scarce, the actor has already been photographed on set by the gossip mongers at Daily Mail.

If you would like to see pictures of Mescal in a tank, you know what to do.

The movie will mark celebrated dancer Benjamin Millepied‘s first time behind the camera of a feature film, as he steps into the role as director. You may know him as the choreographer behind Black Swan.

I’m going on a slight tangent here, but Millepied is marred to Natalie Portman, who is currently filming Thor: Love and Thunder in Sydney.

Anywho, Carmen will feature nine new songs by Oscar-nominated music composer, Nicholas Britell (Moonlight), Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Juliete Venegas, and Taura Stinson.

Paul Mescal skyrocketed to fame after his role in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney‘s second novel Normal People.

The author recently announced her third book, Beautiful World, Where Are You, will hit shelves this September 7.

It follows four young people in Ireland as they navigate love, friendship, and sex. If the synopsis is anything to go by, it sounds like we’re in for another torturous read. I, for one, cannot wait to consume it.

Normal People is available to stream on Stan right now.
