We received a few tip-offs about a particular Facebook page maybe possibly being a bit of viral marketing over the past few weeks. Well, we can confirm it: Outback Safari Tours is indeed a clever bit of viral marketing for season 2 of Stan‘s original Wolf Creek series.
The Facebook page’s most popular post was this video, advertising the Outback Safari Tour trip which is the centrepiece of the new series. As you might imagine if you’ve watched any piece of Wolf Creek content, this tour bus runs into some slight dramas courtesy of serial killer Mick Taylor (John Jarratt).
A number of fans in the Facebook comments have clearly put two and two together, but Stan passed on a few messages – among a whole bunch – they received from people actually keen to book a tour. Shit idea, to be honest,
If you call the number advertised on the post – 1300 848 097 – you get a voicemail left by Jarratt. Presumably by that point you should be pretty clear that you will not be taking an Outback tour with this company.
Stan also put up ads in cities around Australia advertising the fictional company and the phone number hotline.
There ya have it. Well played. The second season of Wolf Creek drops on December 15th exclusively on Stan.
