Oprah Gifted Us W/ This Throwback To A 90s RuPaul Interview & It’s Too Real

Sometimes we just need a little boost of motivation to get us through the day/week/month/year.

RuPaul is a known wealth of inspo and positive attitude, and this recovered interview with Oprah Winfrey from 1995 is an absolute goldmine for that slump before we hit hump day.

In the vintage clip (yeah I guess 90s is considered ‘vintage’ now, hey), Mama Ru talks about his understanding of his identity as a drag queen – who would turn out to be the fkn Mother of all Queens – and how to find your own personal ~brand~ and get the max potential out of yaself.

“Find out what it is you have the is unique and special and cultivate that…make that…bring that out, and then bring that to the party,” Mama Ru said.

Oh, and that shitty moods and thoughts will always pass.

It was really tough, it got really dark. One of the things that kept me going through it was knowing that y’know, bad weather always passes over,” said RuPaul.

“If you can persevere…if you could just wait it out, it will pass.”

He also noted that self-acceptance and realising that success is a deeply personal thing has helped him to become his best self.

“Success is something between you and yourself,” he said.
“Only you know how far – where you’ve come from, and how far you wanna go.”

YESSSSSS MAMAAAAAAAA.

The most resonating bit for me though is Ru getting all existential on our arses, discussing how our bodies are nothing but flesh and we’re all made of power and energy and stardust.

“These bodies that house our souls are really just temporary – like this outfit. It’s just flesh,” he said.

“We are so incredible. We are the extension of the power that created the whole universe. We have to acknowledge that…and say ‘yes, I am that’.”

Come through, Mama Ru. Come THROUGH.

Thank you *so* much.
