Fans Reckon The New ‘Pokémon’ Movie Is Gonna To Be A CGI Remake Of The OG One

A recently released teaser for the upcoming Pokémon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, could be a complete CGI remake of the original animated movie, according to fan speculation.

As Eurogamer reports, the 45-second teaser trailer shows a few clues hinting that it’s going to be a remake rather than something brand new. For starters, it opens with the year, “1998,” and a sign from the first movie’s premiere before stating, “the legend is back”.

The short clip also shows CGI footage of Mew and Mewtwo flying through the clouds, which would make it the first Pokémon film to be created entirely with computer graphics, assuming it’s not just limited to certain parts. As IGN points out, the character models are far truer to the original movie and cartoons, as opposed to those from the upcoming Detective Pikachu movie, which aim to be more realistic.

Check out the trailer in the tweet below.

The film is set for release later this year around the time of the first movie’s 20th anniversary, which was released on November 6, 1999, which may even line up with Nintendo‘s upcoming Pokémon RPG for the Switch.

Of course, this is all just speculation at this stage, so we’ll have to wait for a proper trailer for more information.
