Not Only Is Ben Affleck Going To Be Batman In A Standalone Film, He’ll Direct It As Well

Those of you who howled with derision when Ben Affleck was unveiled as the man to fill the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman for DC‘s “we totally planned to do this all along it has nothing to do with the fact that The Avengers made squillionsJustice League movies might want to close your browsers and close them pronto.

Though in theory this probably seemed inevitable, word today is passing around that Affleck is going to don the Batsuit for a standalone Batman film that will tie into the DC Cinematic Universe.
Though we’ve already got a taste of the Big Bad Bat coming up in the Batman vs Superman film that’s scheduled in March of next year, Batsy will take flight in his very own DCCU film.
And here’s the real kicker. Not only is Affleck going to star in that one, but he’s going to direct it himself.
Turns out that’s kind of been the plan all along, too. When he signed on for the role back in 2013, a clause in his contract dictated that it would be he who would direct the standalone Gotham flick – which has always been in DC and Warner Bros‘ plans, despite revealing a slate of planned Justice League films that had a Batman film conspicuously absent.
Affleck will pair up with comic book writing royalty in Geoff Johns for the project, which will go into production after Affleck completes his current venture – the big screen adaptation of Dennis Lahane‘s crime novel series “Live by Night which is scheduled to start filming in November.
No matter how you feel about it, it’s a thing that’s definitely going to happen.
And if you’re one of those whom prefers to swigeth thine Haterade, rest assured Affleck will probably be writing it just for you.
