Norm Macdonald’s 1 Minute ‘Late Late Show’ Audition Is Manic Genius

If you’re a devout fan of comedy in its many splendored forms, chances are you’re used to speaking the name “Norm Macdonald” in hushed, revered awe. The veteran comic has long been at the forefront of comedy that’s a little different and askew from the norm, whether it be one of the longest (and best) renditions of the “A moth walks into a podiatrist’s office…” gag, or whether it be crafting a roast speech so deftly un-funny that it brings tears to the eyes.

But one thing Norm Macdonald has never been is a tenured television mainstay. Despite pioneering the Weekend Update desk at Saturday Night Live, most of Norm’s other forays into television have been reasonably short lived. But with the chair at Craig Ferguson‘s Late Late Show about to open up, there’s a flicker (a very small flicker) of hope yet.
To prove that he’s got the nous to carry a late night chair, Norm stopped by Conan to erase what little doubt remains in the eyes of detractors by bashing out an entire mock episode of a late night show all in the space of 60 seconds.
In typical Norm Macdonald fashion, it’s a twisted, ridiculous, frantic piece of borderline genius.
