Ninja Turtles Returning To TV in 3D

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, beloved franchise of young boys the world over, has begun pre-production for its return to TV in 2012.

Nickelodeon purchased the global commercial rights to the heroes in a halfshell in 2009, but all has been quiet in the sewers until yesterday, when they released a sneak peek of the new series that will have 26 episodes screening next year.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the Turtles are in 3D, no biggie considering they were already as live action film back in in 1990. They’re also looking a bit blockier than usual – perhaps they’ve been washing down all that pizza with protein shakes- and have updated versions of their trademark weapons (Donatello got a neat blade on the end of that rusty staff). Of course, we don’t hear them say anything in the trailer, so we don’t know if legendary surfer phrases like ‘Cowabunga Dude!’ will be retained for the attention-deficit iGeneration. Also, it’s unlikely they’ll ever have a theme song as rad as this gem:
