New Trailers: Green Lantern, Your Highness

Hey kids, today’s movie trailers are brought to you by the colour green. First up, a NSFW trailer for Your Highness, a fantastical stoner comedy starring Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel and Justin Theroux. Highness (geddit?) reunites Pineapple Express Director David Gordon Green with the prolific Mr. Franco and perennial scene-stealer McBride (who also co-wrote the script) but it’s tough to say whether it’ll match it’s predecessor for laughs. Trailer looks promising though what with all the f-bombs and Natalie Portman disrobing by a river.

Says the synopsis: “Thadeous (McBride) has spent his life watching his perfect older brother Fabious (Franco) embark upon valiant journeys and win the hearts of his people. Tired of being passed over for adventure, adoration and the throne, he’s settled for a life of wizard’s weed, hard booze and easy maidens. But when Fabious’ bride-to-be, Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel), gets kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux), the king gives his deadbeat son an ultimatum: Man up and help rescue her or get cut off.

Next up is the film adaptation of DC Comics’ Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, and Tim Robbins. Ugh, trying to be positive about this one but it doesn’t look promising at all. The CGI looks clumsy, the story doesn’t feel remotely compelling and Blake Lively just can’t put on that puppy eyes/husky voice combo and call it acting. I also have a problem with Reynolds, who played Deadpool in last year’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, being cast as the Green Lantern. I know it’s separate DC/Marvel universes but if they were to somehow converge on screen, would Deadpool and the Green Lantern look exactly the same? That is, like the closet rapist from “Two guys A Girl And A Pizza Place”?
