New iPad Makes Worldwide Debut In Sydney

The New iPad launched this morning in Sydney, making its worldwide debut at midnight at the Telstra store on George St., directly opposite Apple’s glass and steel temple where fans queued overnight in anticipation of the store’s 8:00am opening.

Telstra got the jump on Apple by offering a pre-paid starter pack that saw customers walking away from the store at 12:30am, issuing customers with numbers beforehand that allowed them to wait in-store (and presumably elsewhere), while Apple left its devotees on the streets until this morning. Plus Telstra served refreshments and provided 70s-style pinball machines.

Gizmodo reports that as of yesterday afternoon, queues for the new tablet were comparably down on previous product launches, however, things were definitely picking up by 8:00am with a queue stretching around the block onto York St.

As of 11:00am this morning, the George St. flagship had not sold out of iPads, and although “difficult to predict”, it sounded like they weren’t going to run out anytime soon.

Would you/have you queued overnight for a product launch? Better yet, would you clap maniacally and jump up and down with the kind of zealous enthusiasm exhibited by Apple staff here and in all their stores? Furthermore, will you buy a New iPad, or pick up an iPad 2 for a fraction of the price? Take it to the polls:
