Netflix Is Dropping 70 New Films In 2021, Which Is Big For Yr Ass & Its Position On The Sofa

Netflix has apparently stopped at nothing to cover our movie-binging habits for the year, releasing one, sometimes multiple (!!!) new movies for every single week of 2021.

Expect 70 new Netflix Originals to drop this year – that’s more than triple the paltry 21 movies the streaming service announced this time last year. Hindsight is, as they say, 2020.

The list is choc-full of dramas and thrillers, plus plenty of the obligatory action, comedy and romance movies to boot.

Did we mention the stars?

Take Don’t Look Up, a film about two budding astronomers who have to warn all of humanity about a comet heading straight for Earth, which will feature Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman with Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep.

That’s a lot of fucking names for one movie.

Australia is also getting its own animated family flick, Back to the Outback, starring Isla Fisher as a snake trying to break free from her reptile enclosure, along with Miranda Tapsell as a thorny devil, Tim Minchin as a koala, and Eric Bana as a zookeeper. Oh, and Celeste Barber and Keith Urban are set to make an appearance, too.

Thunder Force is a comedy starring Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy as superheroes trying to protect their city.

There are way too many Aussie stars in this one picture. (Back to the Outback)

Meanwhile, FBI agent Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will have to team up with criminals Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds in order to hunt down Interpol’s most wanted in Red Notice.

Zendaya and John David Washington will also have their own romantic drama together, called Malcolm & Marie, which is being billed as “an ode to the great Hollywood romances”.

The Harder They Fall, a Western film which counts Jay Z as one of its producers, will see Idris Elba on the run after being let out of prison. Elba is also starring in another kind-of-Western movie, Concrete Cowboy, set in the present day and shining a light on North Philadelphia’s urban cowboy subculture.

This is what you get when you put Zendaya and John David Washington in a romantic movie. (Malcolm & Marie)

Eric Andre is back in a hidden-camera show following him on a trip across the US. It’s backed by a Jackass producer and is aptly-titled Bad Trip.

We can also expect The Kissing Booth 3 AND The Princess Switch 3 to grace Netflix this year.

Hidden in the list of movies is also an as-of-yet untitled rom-com starring none other than Alicia Keys, which sounds INTRIGUING.

It’s a bloody lot to take in, but Netflix appears to have covered all bases to get us through the year.
