Netflix has officially entered the epic market with the release of a new Marco Polo trailer.
The period drama follows the intrepid Venetian merchant named for a popular poolside hide and seek game* as he journeys to China, tries dumplings for the first time and fosters a cross-cultural bromance with Kublai Khan. The show was created by John Fusco and stars Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy in the titular role and English actor Benedict Wong as Khan.
Here’s the synopsis: “Intrigue. Deception. Bloodshed. These are just some of the obstacles awaiting legendary explorer Marco Polo as he navigates the inner court of 13th century ruler, Kublai Khan. From the back alleys of Venice to the perilous Silk Road, from the opulence of the Imperial City to the battlefields of China, Marco Polo is an epic action-adventure, where cultures clash, blood is spilled, and lies are told…”
The entire first season drops December 12th on Netflix.
