Netflix Confirms New Season Of Arrested Development

Streaming service Netflix will premiere a new season of Arrested Development next year, Variety reports. We’ve only been waiting five fucking years you guys! And it’s obvious we’re not the only ones. From the moment Fox canned Mitch Hurwitz’s show about “a wealthy family who lost everything and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together”, AD has slowly become TV’s Chinese Democracy; subject to frequent/questionable rumours, a eulogistic fanbase and a core group of players who would pursue other projects in the interim (I guess Michael Cera is Slash in this analogy?). No players have been confirmed for the new season, but we do know the deal was struck between Netflix, 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television with the new season to be streamed exclusively on the former. Welcome back, Dr. Funke’s 100% Natural Good Time Family Band Solution!

Variety reports: “The sides struck a deal with the streaming service that will launch new episodes of the Emmy-winning comedy in early 2013, the studio confirmed…All of the series regulars have expressed interest in returning and are expected back, though no deals have been done. How that will work will be interesting given many of them are maintaing busy careers. “Arrested” player Arnett is currently on the NBC series “Up All Night” and another alum, Portia de Rossi, is attached to a high-profile project in development at the Peacock.”

Despite a raft of potential setbacks including the availability issues above, producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer remain hopeful of the show’s return: “Bringing a series back from cancellation almost never happens, but then, ‘Arrested’ always was about as unconventional as they get, so it seems totally appropriate that this show that broke the mold is smashing it to pieces once again.”Bringing a series back from cancellation almost never happens, but then, ‘Arrested’ always was about as unconventional as they get, so it seems totally appropriate that this show that broke the mold is smashing it to pieces once again.”

Phew. Now that AD’s back we can focus our attention solely on the Party Down reunion. Make that happen, internet.
