Holy Shit, Fran Drescher Is Chatting With Cardi B’s Crew About A ‘Nanny’ Reboot

Fran Drescher, the heart, soul, and voice of beloved 90s sitcom The Nanny, says she is in talks with Cardi B‘s representatives about rebooting the show – and casting the rapper in a leading role.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actor said recent meetings with the muso’s crew were just “laying out groundwork” for the Invasion Of Privacy star to take over.

Discussing the odds of Cardi acting full-time, Drescher said “she would be kinda like my top choice, if she’s disciplined to do this show every week.”

And, given the arrival of baby Kulture last year, Drescher said the gig could be a “very comfortable, lovely way to, you know, work” and tour in the off-season.

Let’s be clear – this appreciation is totally mutual. In September last year, Cardi referenced Drescher in the caption of a Nanny-esque Instagram post.

One month later, she re-shared footage of Drescher heaping praise on Cardi and her voice.

If you allow us to digress ever so slightly, the similarities extend further than their style. Drescher has spoken in no uncertain terms about dismantling capitalism, while Cardi herself appeared alongside Democratic primary contender Bernie Sanders to cover the same issues.

Cardi recently had a turn in Hustlers, and her on-screen performance prompted one of the film’s real-life inspirations to say she could have taken the starring role.

It’s all looking very positive for one of the only shows which might actually deserve a well-done reboot.
