Based on one of Disney’s most groundbreaking animated flicks, Mulan tells the story of a woman (portrayed by Yifei Liu) who poses as a man to fight in the Chinese army.

“Your job is to bring honour to the family,” Mulan’s father tells his daughter in the trailer. “Do you think you can do that?”

Like the 1998 movie, each family is forced to send one man to fight in battle after Northern invaders attack. Since Hua Zhou is too sick, Mulan takes his place and disguises herself from the Emperor and the rest of the army as Hua Jun.

“Loyal, brave and true,” she says. “It is my duty to protect my family.”

Mulan prepares for battle with all the gusto of the original film but with a whole lot more badass.

As the mighty battle kicks off, we see the enemy witch figure out Hua Mulan’s true female identity.

She then fights with her hair down (as seen in the poster), revealing who she really is.

“I’m Hua Mulan, I will bring honor to us all,” she vows.

Don’t even @ me for dropping spoilers, you know how it all goes down.

Mulan was directed but Niki Caro and also stars Jet Li, Donnie Yen and Gong Li.

It debuts in Australian cinemas on March 26, 2020.
