Mtv Video Music Award AI Red Carpet

Unfortunately, Hollywood's red carpet isn't safe from Artificial Intelligence, after a bunch of fans were gooped and gagged over AI-generated images of their faves at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.

It's without a doubt that the MTV VMAs host one of the most expressive red carpets. From Lil Kim's 1999 purple look to Lady Gaga's 2010 controversial meat dress, you can expect the VMAs carpet to garner some major looks.

And while the 2026 MTV VMAs red (or should we say blue) carpet  amazing fits from LISA to Teyana Taylor and Taylor Swift, looks from Katy Perry, Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga went viral. However, their appearances were fabricated.

It was all AI.

Some posts have a community note flagging that it's AI. (Image source: X)

AI-generated 2026 MTV VMA blue carpet looks got so viral it got to a point where some confessed to not knowing whether they were real or not. One person also highlighted how the viral images took away from stylists and designers.

This isn't the first time the celebrity world has been rocked by AI-generated red carpet looks. During the 2024 Met Gala, social media pages were flooded with AI looks from Rihanna, Katy Perry, Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga.

As someone who works in a creative field, it is disappointing to see these go viral. Especially as someone who grew up with botched Photoshop jobs and dank memes.

Hopefully one day we all go back to the ancient art forms of the Pain app and Picnick.
