Two Huge Instagrammers Just Had Their Show Cancelled Over Racist Tweets

The Morning Breath, a digital breakfast show hosted by sisters and popular Instagrammers Claudia and Jackie Oshry, has been cancelled after the rediscovery of racist tweets posted as far back as 2012.

The Daily Beast first reported on the tweets in a piece focussing on the pair’s mother Pamela Geller, a known right-wing agitator and anti-Muslim activist.

Claudia Oshry, who commands 2.8 million followers under the Instagram handle @girlwithnojob, tweeted in 2014 that “I can’t but feel like I’m funding terrorism when I take a cab.” She also made comments supporting the conspiracy theory that former President Barack Obama is secretly Muslim.

Jackie Oshry, who goes by @jackieoproblems on Instagram, also tweeted at Obama in 2015. She wrote “Hi @POTUS, Can you reimburse me for all the cabs I’m taking bc your piece shit of plan to defeat ISIS makes me scared to take the subway? Ty.”

In a statement obtained by Variety, The Morning Breath’s production company Oath said it had been immediately terminated, and that “we have launched an internal investigation and will take other appropriate steps based on the results of the investigation.”

Claudia Oshry has taken to Instagram to comment on her mother’s political views (The Daily Beast had commented on Geller’s absence from both sisters’ Instagram presences) and to apologise for the “really disgusting, vile, stupid” tweets, some of which she made as a teen.

Her sister also took to Instagram to comment on the “indefensible” comments.

Both sisters appear to have deleted their Twitter accounts.

The Morning Breath conducted 185 live shows streamed on Facebook, and had recently featured guests including Gillian Jacobs, NFL star Rob Gronkowski, and innumerable other Instagram influencers.

It is possible the show’s cancellation will open a broader conversation about the resurfacing of problematic viewpoints from the formative years of public figures. In any case, at least one production company has chosen not to expose its Gen Z audience to someone who made admittedly hateful comments at their age.

FWIW, @girlwithnojob has recommenced its regular posts.
