‘MKR’ Villain Claims Producers Manipulated His Outbursts & We’re In Shock

My Kitchen Rules contestant Josh “Seafood King” Meeuwissen has claimed the show’s producers cajoled him into some inflammatory comments in the interest of ratings. We know, we can hardly believe it either.

Meeuwissen, who has been on the testier end of some heated comments about his competitors, has said that some of his outbursts – including a usage of the word “slut”, which will apparently feature in tonight’s episode – were essentially blackmailed out of him, or misrepresented in post-production.

Speaking to Kyle & Jackie O this morning (we know), Meeuwissen said producers “threatened teams that they would not be allowed to leave the interview room until they said a particular scene that producers wanted.”

Yup. Apparently, those little asides are filmed under incredibly stressful pretenses, and aren’t just billed to contestants as some easygoing context-adding tidbits.

Meeuwissen claimed “if I didn’t do certain things they were going to portray it differently. And they were telling me how they were going to edit it unless I play ball.”

As for the “slut” thing, he reckons it was a surprise the show’s producers would run ahead with the footage, given the fact he apologised to the subject of his slur – and maintains a friendship with ’em outside of the show.

The Broome native also claimed a producer badgered him about some rank comments.

He says she “followed us [he and teammate Amy] to the hotel, took the lift with us, followed us to our hotel room, the entire way hounding, pleading with us, blackmailing us, and then had the audacity to justify this behaviour as ‘doing her job.’”
As for why? Well, he says it’s all down to ratings, as “against Married At First Sight, they’ve pulled some low ratings and they’re doing anything they can to get viewers in.”
Golly gee. If you’re the kind of person who likes watching this kind of (allegedly) coordinated drama unfold, you can catch the next episode tonight at 7:30pm on Channel 7.
