Mindy Kaling Says B.J. Novak Is Her Bub’s Godfather, Which Is A Big Aw

Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak‘s friendship is wholesome as heck. They first captured our hearts as Kelly and Ryan on The Office and, after dating on and off in real life for a couple of years, settled on somewhere between soup snakes and family. To add to the latter, Kaling recently revealed that Novak is godfather to her daughter Katherine.

The pair always cop questions about their friendship. Some people are just convinced they’re dating and to be fair, Kaling understands why.

“If I was on the outside looking at it, I would think the same thing,” she told Good Housekeeping. “But the truth is that B.J. is so much more like family now than a platonic friend. He’s the godfather to my daughter, he comes over like once a week. Sometimes he’ll come over just to hang out with her.”

Christ, that’s too cute.

She added that Novak is “a real staple in my household.”

Again, too cute.

The comedian gets the whole scepticism attached to platonic friendships but explained: “When you’ve known someone for as long as I’ve known him — the time that we met each other, which was like 24. Now, we’re both almost 40. It’s such a long time that he truly is just a part of my family.”

Novak even attends Kaling’s Christmas festivities now.

Elsewhere, Late Night – starring Kaling and Emma Thompson – will land in Aussie cinemas Thursday, 25 July.

Written by Kaling, Late Night chucks us into the fast-paced life of Katherine Newbury (Thompson), a legendary host on the late-night talk-show circuit. When Katherine is accused of being a “woman who hates women”, she immediately sets out to prove people wrong and hires Molly (Kaling) as the only woman and person of colour in Katherine’s writers’ room.

Determined to prove she isn’t just a diversity hire, Molly sets out to revamp Katherine’s career as she faces low-ratings and a network that wants to replace her.
