From a script by Kaling, Amazon Studios‘ Late Night chucks us into the fast-paced life of Katherine Newbury (Thompson), a legendary host on the late-night talk-show circuit. When Katherine is accused of being a “woman who hates women”, she immediately sets out to prove people wrong and BAM, Molly (Kaling) is hired as the only woman and person of colour in Katherine’s all-male writers’ room.

Absolutely determined to prove she wasn’t just a diversity hire, Molly sets out to help revamp Katherine’s career and her show as the host faces low-ratings and a network that wants to replace her.

“I need you Molly. I need your pushiness and lack of boundaries,” Katherine tells Molly in the trailer.

“You love me,” Molly replies. “I mean not in those words.”

“No, I didn’t say it in any of those words.”

Bless. And how does Katherine describe Molly?

“She said I was the vibrant splash of colour on the grey canvas of our writer’s cast.”

Nisha Ganatra (Transparent) directed the film. Hugh Dancy, Reid Scott, Amy Ryan, John Early, and Paul Walter Hauser co-star.

Late Night will land in cinemas June 7.
