Mindy Kaling Honours Her Late Mother With New Bub’s Middle Name

Mindy Kaling has honoured her late mother with her child’s middle name: Swati.

News that the actress had given birth to her first child – a daughter, called Katherine Kaling – earlier this month broke yesterday.

E! News is now reporting that Katherine Kaling’s middle name is Swati, in honour of Mindy’s late mother, Dr. Swati Chokalingam, who died from pancreatic cancer in 2012.

Chokalingham worked as an OBG/YN, which Kaling’s character also worked as on The Mindy Project.

“The show started as a tribute to her mother, who very sadly passed away just as the show is being picked up, and it ends with [spoilers] her having a daughter of her own,” said Kaling’s co-star Ed Weeks, who plays Dr. Jeremy Reed on the show, when news that she was expecting a daughter broke.

Kaling, who is notoriously private, hasn’t revealed the father of her child, and gave her daughter her own last name – which fans have been loving.
