‘Mindhunter’ Fans Reckon They Know Which Fucked Up Serial Killers Will Feature In S3

Mindhunter Season 3

The very excellent Netflix series Mindhunter has already served up some pretty bang-on depictions of some of the US’ most notorious killers, so of course fans who have devoured Season 2 already are keen to see which crims we’ll meet in Mindhunter Season 3 — if Netflix renews it (don’t worry, of course they will).

While we’ve seen Ed Kemper (Cameron Britton), Richard Speck (Jack Erdie), Charles Manson (played by Aussie Damon Herriman), “Son of Sam” David Berkowitz (Oliver Cooper) and “BTK” Dennis Rader (Sonny Valicenti) among others during the first two seasons, eagle-eyed fans of the show reckon they’ve figured out which famous murderers may be portrayed in Mindhunter Season 3.

In the first episode, FBI psychologist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv) puts together a preso on a bunch of psycho-sexual killers she feels should be profiled as part of the Behavioural Science Unit’s research. The little spiel gets interrupted but of course the good folks on Reddit took some screenshots and got to work investigating.

On the wall are some people the BSU meet in S2 including Berkowitz, William “Junior” Pierce (Michael Filipowich) and William Henry Hance (Corey Allen), but there are couple of other “big names” on the list.

The one with fans in a real tizz is Gacy, J.W. This of course stands for John Wayne Gacy, the so-called “Killer Clown” who who raped, tortured and murdered at least 33 teen boys and young men between 1972 – 1978. Creepily, he was a well-liked member of the community and would dress up as a clown to appear at charity events. *shudders for life*

Gacy is one of America’s most famous serial killers, and as Reddit user morkfjellet points out: “Gacy is the most famous serial killer together with [Ted] Bundy, I’m pretty sure they are going to interview him in the future.” Wonder if Zac Efron will reprise his role?

Another user named lftovrporkshoulder believes the “Night Stalker” Richard Ramirez will make an appearance in Mindhunter Season 3 too: “I think Ramirez will be the arc for season 3. But I think Gacy and Bundy will be the “heavy hitters” as far as interviews go.”

Real-life FBI profiler John Douglas (who the character of Holden Ford is loosely based on) has written several books including Mindhunter, and during his career he interviewed Gacy, Bundy and Ramirez. So it looks pretty likely they’ll pop up at some point in the show.

Another couple of famous names on the list are Kenneth Bianchi (one half of the murderous duo the Hillside Stranglers) and Ronald DeFeo, whose slaughter of his entire family inspired the events of the film The Amityville Horror.

So if we’re going by Wendy’s list, there are some real charmers to look forward to in Mindhunter Season 3.
