Miley Cyrus Says She Paused The Weirdness For Lovesong ‘Bout Liam Hemsworth

Miley Cyrus’ place in the realm of pop-culture has, more or less, been defined by her changing place within it: Hannah Montana gave way to inoffensive pop. Inoffensive pop morphed into overblown bangers, and by extension, Bangerz. That record laid the foundations for the deliberately left-field Dead Petz era, and then relative silence from the popstar-turned-provocateur.

That wild career trajectory has kinda been mirrored in her relationship with Liam Hemsworth. After a considerable break, rumours abounded that Cyrus and her Aussie fiancé had swung back the other way by tying the knot.

Now, it seems the personal and professional aspects of her life have coalesced, once again. In her new sit-down interview with Billboard, Cyrus explains that while upcoming track Malibu winds back from the extremities of her most recent tunes, it’s also open about some truly lovey-dovey emotions for Hemsworth that have been harder to pick in her Dead Petz catalogue.

Speaking to the mag, Cyrus said being open in the tune is a way to take charge of the perception of their relationship, as “they’re going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam. So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, “This is how I feel”?”
As for those tumultuous changes in her sound (and aesthetic, and collaborators, and all-around vibe…), Cyrus said her split from Hemsworth was brought about by the fact he, well, was still just staying in his lane. Cyrus told the mag “changing with someone else not changing like that is too hard.

“Suddenly you’re like, “I don’t recognize you anymore.” We had to refall for each other.”
She goes on to discuss her changing politics and her gender fluidity in the full piece, which you can scope out right HERE.

Happy valentines ??
