Old Mate Behind ‘Ciggie Butt Brain’ Is Now Part Of A Cooked ‘Shrek’ Remake

Even though he somehow got the reins of Rick & Morty for one incredibly bonkers trip through the looking glass, this still ranks as something you wouldn’t expect to see Aussie animator Michael Cusack doing on a casual Monday. And yet, it’s real: The man who brought you a swathe of viral animated clips including the likes of Ciggie Butt Brain will soon be handling the very sweaty reins of a shot-for-shot remake of the original Shrek. Or, at least, kind of.

The yarn goes thusly: Every year a group called the3GI puts on Shrekfest in the town of Madison, Wisconsin. Shrekfest is as fairly goods-as-advertised in the sense that it’s an outdoor fan convention devoted wholly to Shrek. There’s music, food, screenings, even an onion-eating contest. Standard.

This year, however, they’ve taken things in a different direction by crowdsourcing a complete and thorough shot-for-shot remake – retelling, really – of the original movie in its entirety entitled Shrek Retold.

Chief among the 200-odd contributors to the movie is Cusack, who took a run at Shrek‘s bridge crossing scene, a snippet of which is featured as part of the movie’s trailer which dropped over the weekend.

It’s not just animators that have gotten stuck into things either; each one of the 200+ contributions has its own style and take on their individual scenes, with the resulting stitched-together feature promising to be as chaotic as it will be undeniably entertaining.

Like we said: Cooked. But honestly, anything less than would do a great disservice to a project like this.

The entire project is set to be released on November 29th via the3GI’s YouTube channel, meaning you won’t have to wait long to have your brain bent over by the sheer uncapped force of a crowdsourced movie remake.

Prepare accordingly.
