Michael Cera Superhero Movie Looks Awesome

Michael Cera is going to get his superhero on in the movie Scott Pilgim vs the World about a bass player (Cera) who, in order to land the girl of his dreams, has to battle seven evil ex-boyfriends – each of whom have amazing powers, complete with Batman-style visual sound effects to the tune of ‘ZUMPH!’ ‘KPOW!’ and so forth.

It was based on a series of graphic novels, visually inspired by anime but thematically influenced by rock and roll. It looks amazing and Cera wields a glowing sword:

Were you fond of the pretty folk-pop tune at the start of the trailer and the fuzzy guitar riffs in the action sequences throughout the trailer? That would be the original compositions of Beck, who scored the film under the watchful eye (and hearful ear) of music supervisor Nigel Godrich, Radiohead producer extraodinaire.

It’s due out in August. I’m excited.
