Michael B. Jordan Adopted Inclusion Riders At His Production Company

Following Frances McDormand’s rousing acceptance speech at Monday’s Oscars, many people have chucked the words ‘Inclusion Rider,‘ into google for a quick squizz. Black Panther and Creed actor, Michael B. Jordan included.

Just for a quick refresher, an Inclusion Rider is a clause added to an ‘A-Lister’s’ contract that would demand at least fifty per cent diversity in their cast and crew. This would mean diversity in gender, identification, sexual orientation, race and ability so in cases where directors and writers absolutely have to cast ‘familiar’ actors into lead roles, at least those in smaller roles and those behind-the-scenes can look and be more representative of today’s society.

Though the theory behind the concept has always been a possibility, the concept itself was only first coined in 2016 by Dr. Stacy Smith and has yet to be fully adopted throughout the film industry. McDormand’s speech may have changed that.

As if our boy couldn’t get any better, the Black Panther star took to his Instagram earlier today to announce he will be adopting the Inclusion Rider clause on all projects produced by his company, Outlier Society. Amazing.
