The 1st ‘Men In Black: International’ Trailer Is Sweeter Than Sugar In Water

Correction: an earlier version of this article listed Chris Hemsworth as Liam Hemsworth, presumably because the author was overawed by the presence of Liam Neeson. The person responsible for this error has been exiled to the Arctic tundra. 

Blockbuster movie teasers don’t really tease too much any more, unless you count the infinitesimally small slivers of content occasionally wedged before YouTube videos. The trailer has become a statement piece itself, as evidenced by publications such as this one analysing each frame for Easter Eggs and nods to pre-existing fans.

That makes the Men In Black: International trailer somewhat interesting, because it actually keeps key elements of the film hidden.

Yes, we knew Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson team up to zap aliens, and we know they use big, shiny chrome guns to do so. The rest of the film – including details of the crisis in London, why the MIB let Thompson’s civilian character morph into Agent M, and the beguiling pan-continental accent of Hemsworth’s Agent H – is left mercifully unexplained.

Also unexplained: Kumail Nanjiani‘s alien character, a perfect little toad-owl hybrid. You’ll see:
