Melissa McCarthy is the Front-Runner to Star in ‘Ghostbusters’

Last month, we reported that the Ghostbusters reboot is powering forward, with producers seeking a dream team cast including the likes of Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Rebel Wilson, Amy Schumer and Lizzy Caplan.
Today, The Hollywood Reporter are claiming that the always-excellent Melissa McCarthy is the frontrunner to star in the project, and is currently in talks with Columbia, to begin shooting the film as early as June this year.
The casting would make sense, given that McCarthy has worked with director Paul Feig on three other projects – the breakout hit Bridesmaids, the cop comedy The Heat, and the recently-wrapped Spy, co-starring Rose Byrne.
McCarthy will reportedly need to clear some space in her schedule, which includes the sitcom Mike And Molly and an upcoming film called Michelle Darnelle, but we are sincerely hoping the movie gods make this happen.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Emma Stone is also seen as a viable candidate for the film, and really, who are we to argue with them? Cecily Strong of SNL and Jillian Bell of 22 Jump Street and Workaholics are also “due to meet with Feig.”
It has previously been said that the upcoming Ghostbusters will be a reboot of the original film, not a continuation from the old team, although there is a chance that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson could make cameos.
