You Must Never Forget That The MCU Started In Sydney

Allow me to set the scene.

It is 2008, and the content behemoth we know now as the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a glint in producer Kevin Feige‘s eye. People still made movies without the intention of spinning them into multibillion dollar interconnected franchises over the course of decades. A little indie flick by the name of Iron Man was about to drop.

Who were the first people to set their eyes on Iron Man, getting a glimpse into the next eleven years of pop culture? Why, it was the people of Sydney. The first premiere of Iron Man took place at Greater Union (now Event Cinemas) on George St on April 14, 2008.

We. Were. First.

As such, I feel comfortable saying that we as a nation must claim credit for the runaway success of Marvel. It is, in many ways, our sovereign birthright. The MCU started in Sydney. It was born here.

I have excavated some photos from that fateful night. All the stars were in attendance, and by ‘all the stars’ I do mean ‘mostly Rove and basically no one else’:

Once again… the king:

Looks like a, uh, truly great night.
