Matthew Perry’s ‘Odd Couple’ Remake is a Thing That’s Happening

Poor, poor Matthew Perry. The other Friends are doing well career-wise – silver daddy Matt LeBlanc is killing it on Episodes, Courteney Cox‘s Cougar Town was just picked up for a sixth season, Lisa Kudrow will soon be returning for more of The Comeback, and you’ve probably secretly enjoyed the last couple of Jennifer Aniston‘s movies on long-haul flights – but Chandler just can’t seem to catch a break.

The dude’s IMDB page is a graveyard of misbegotten, cancelled shows. The Aaron Sorkin-produced drama Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, which was meant to be Perry’s big, post-Friends comeback, was cancelled after one season. His last show, the bereavement sitcom Go On, met a similar fate. 2011’s Mr Sunshine had a great cast, including the likes of Allison Janney, but bit the dust after just 13 episodes. People really, really don’t like watching Matthew Perry.

Well, he clearly must be a sucker for punishment, because he’s taking yet another crack at  sitcom stardom, this time in a remake of The Odd Couple, which ran for five years back in the ’70s. The show is about a pair of grown men, one slob and one uptight neat freak, who find themselves living together as roommates. Perry will reportedly play Oscar, the slovenly mess, while Thomas Lennon of Reno 911 and I Love You, Man will play the Felix, the neat one.

The Odd Couple remake is set to air on American network CBS, and may already have been cancelled by the time you reach the end of this sentence. Matthew Perry might want to consider just kicking back and enjoying his Friends millions for a bit, and taking some solace in the fact that at least he wasn’t Ross
