Turns out IRL Warner Had A Y’Huge Crush On Reese Witherspoon & Selma Blair

Earlier this week we were all blessed with the news that Legally Blonde 3 is officially happening – 17 years since the original graced our screens. After a questionable sequel, multiple spins offs, a fantastic Broadway show, and rumour upon rumour, Reese Witherspoon confirmed the news herself in the most Elle Woods way possible.

No explanation needed because we all remember this iconic scene from Elle’s video essay.

And why had she recorded such a fabulous video essay for Harvard Law School?

Warner Huntington III.

This guy:

She sure did, Pooh Bear

Back when Legally Blonde 3 was just a cheeky rumour – Warner actor – Matthew Davis told PEDESTRIAN.TV he’d love to be a part of the flick:

“I’d loved to, of course – Warner Strikes Back. He’d probably be some corrupt politician, or some aid to a corrupt politician or he might be in jail for some sort of security fraud.”

I mean, where is the lie? Unless… Warner’s had a back flip and dug his way out of the “douchebag deep end” – a term we all need to adopt into our daily vocabulary.

In the unlikely case you don’t remember Warner… he’s the man Elle loves at the beginning of the movie and the man she gets into Law School for after he brutally dumps her for being “too blonde”.

Of course, Davis isn’t a spoilt shit in real life and is extremely grateful for the doors Legally Blonde opened for him.

“It was a huge learning experience for me. I had just moved to Los Angeles, it was the fourth movie I had booked and working with Reese was just a tremendous experience. I really had no idea how professional she was and what a powerhouse she is as an actor.”

Davis also told us he fully “fanboyed” when he first met Witherspoon. He was and still is a massive fan of hers especially after seeing her in the 1993 film A Far Off Place.

“I remember being a total nerd, and fanboying all over her, and going on and on about how much I love her, and how much I had a huge crush on her growing up. I think she was flattered at first but then I went on for too long and it got awkward.”

Amazing.

But wait, there’s MORE because Davis also had a “huge crush on Selma Blair as well. She was the light of that movie for me because she was so funny. I just remember adoring her more than anything.”

Can’t say I blame the guy.

As for his most memorable scene in the film, Davis chose the absolutely brilliant break-up/ melt-down/ “bad salad” scene:

“I just remember the impact the first scene I shot with [Witherspoon] had – it was the break-up scene. I just remember being so out of my element, I started working right away, and got super, super lucky. [Witherspoon] was just so on point – this character was so big and so full of life… I just followed her lead really because she was so dialled in.”

Cast your minds back to that very scene and you’ll remember Warner dropping a lot of the pouty “Pooh Bear” and those two words still follow Davis around today.

In the 17 years since Legally Blonde, Davis has gone on to star in Blue Crush, the hit series The Vampire Diaries, and the upcoming CW series Legacies as Alaric Saltzman. But he does have a couple of little souvenirs from the set buried around somewhere in his closet… or just sitting on his bedside table… we’ll never know.

Davis told us he snatched a snow-globe framed picture of Elle and Warner from her dorm-room when filming wrapped. He also has the script tucked away because even to this day, the 40-year-old is still completely awed by how much of an impact Legally Blonde had on young women around the world.

Legally Blonde 3 will land in cinemas Valentine’s Day 2020.
